Job description
Role overview
Southampton City Council is looking for a motivated and dedicated Attendance Officer to become part of the school team from September 2026. This is a full-time, term-time-only position based at Banister Primary School in Southampton.
The post reports to the Headteacher and the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). It carries Grade 6 status and offers a salary of £23,893 to £25,979 FTE. Working hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Purpose of the role
The main aim of this position is to improve and maintain strong levels of attendance and punctuality across the school. You will help ensure robust attendance systems are in place, work closely with families, and support safeguarding processes where needed.
The role is important in helping every pupil access the school’s ambitious curriculum and in supporting a school community that is inclusive, energetic, and driven by high achievement.
How the role reflects the school’s values
- Belief: helping pupils and families recognise that good attendance is essential for success.
- Pride: encouraging high standards and a sense of belonging through punctuality and attendance.
- Success: supporting children to reach their full potential through steady school attendance.
Additional responsibilities
Alongside attendance work, the post also involves administrative and operational support for the school office, contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of front-of-house systems.
Safeguarding
The school places child safeguarding at the centre of its work. The successful candidate must be willing to support this commitment and will be required to complete enhanced DBS checks and provide satisfactory references.
Visits and recruitment timeline
Prospective applicants are welcome to arrange a visit to the school. The closing date for applications is Monday 29 June at 9:00am, and interviews are scheduled for Thursday 2 July.
Terms and conditions
This is a full-time role that operates during term time only. The start date is September 2026.
