Job description

About Vortexa

Vortexa was created to close the major information gap in the energy sector. By bringing together large-scale satellite data, advanced artificial intelligence, and deep industry expertise, the company delivers a near real-time picture of global seaborne energy movements, improving clarity and efficiency across energy markets.

With teams and customers across London, Geneva, Singapore, Dubai, New York, and Houston, Vortexa has established an international footprint and continues to grow its analytical capabilities and client reach.

Role overview

Vortexa is hiring a junior Data Analyst for its Data Analysis team in Singapore. This role is well suited to a recent graduate with strong analytical ability or someone with up to two years of experience. You will be part of a global team led from London.

The position focuses on protecting the quality and reliability of Vortexa’s proprietary data. You will respond to internal and external data questions, including validation requests coming through support channels, and help drive data quality improvements raised by the analyst function and other teams.

You will learn the company’s tools and workflows, take ownership of them in day-to-day use, and gradually contribute to improving them. The role also involves close collaboration with data and market analysts around the world, as well as partnership with the R&D team to identify recurring data issues that may require engineering solutions.

Vortexa encourages practical problem-solving and innovation. You will be expected to look for ways to replace manual work with better processes, using Python scripting and AI tools such as Claude where appropriate.

Key responsibilities

  • Own daily data quality routines, including structured checks and quality control across proprietary datasets.
  • Investigate issues flagged by internal teams, customer support, or your own analysis.
  • Identify the underlying cause of data problems and implement corrective fixes.
  • Compare and align internal data with external sources and third-party providers.
  • Support colleagues and clients with data validation questions and discrepancy checks.
  • Work with R&D to detect patterns in recurring data errors and help shape longer-term improvements.
  • Develop and maintain Python scripts for investigations and automation, while making practical use of AI tools to improve speed and accuracy.
  • Spot opportunities to streamline manual tasks and bring forward ideas that improve data processes across the team.

Requirements

  • A degree or relevant experience in a quantitative, scientific, or analytical field such as economics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, geography, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong numerical ability, analytical thinking, and general computer literacy, with a real interest in working with data.
  • Working knowledge of Python that is sufficient to adapt, test, and write scripts for analysis and automation tasks.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI tools and their use in data investigation and analysis workflows.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle several priorities at once.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and spoken, plus good listening skills for a cross-functional global environment.
  • A strong problem-solving mindset and the persistence to trace issues to their root and see fixes through.
  • Interest in oil and gas or shipping is helpful, and basic knowledge of energy markets is an advantage.
  • Basic SQL skills are useful for routine work, while more advanced SQL helps with deeper investigations.

Benefits

  • Stock options in a fast-scaling business with strong growth potential.
  • An open, collaborative, and supportive culture that values merit, creative thinking, and practical execution.
  • Exposure to AI-powered technology in a scale-up environment alongside commodity trading experts.
  • Private health insurance through AXA.
  • Flexible working arrangements that support remote and home-based work, along with regular team events.
  • A global volunteering policy designed to help employees contribute positively and feel better.
