Position overview
The Assistant Store Manager supports day-to-day store operations and helps deliver a smooth, positive shopping experience. In this role, you will back up the Store Manager, step in when needed, and help drive store performance across sales, service, staffing, stock control, and presentation.
Sales and customer experience
- Keep customer needs at the center of every store activity.
- Promote a strong service culture and set the standard through your own behavior.
- Look for practical ways to meet and surpass sales goals.
- Make sure the team understands KPIs and the targets they are expected to achieve.
- Ensure promotional stock offers are rolled out correctly in the store.
- Use effective selling approaches to improve store revenue.
Store administration and performance
- Regularly review store administration and fix issues where needed.
- Adopt new administrative processes smoothly and apply them effectively within the store.
- Work with the Store Manager to plan and deliver sales targets.
- Track sales results and evaluate key performance indicators.
- Put sales plans into action to improve revenue and support business objectives.
- Manage stock control and merchandising so products remain available and well presented.
- Carry out stock checks frequently and arrange replenishment to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Keep store layout and presentation aligned with brand requirements.
Presentation and merchandising
- Maintain the correct product mix and stock depth to support sales potential.
- Ensure visual merchandising and store upkeep remain at a high standard.
- Communicate any changes in stock or layout clearly to the whole team.
- Make sure team members follow retail standards consistently.
- Support back-store operations and replenishment of merchandise.
Staffing and team management
- Manage work schedules, leave, vacations, and weekly days off for sales staff.
- Handle employee concerns and complaints while providing ongoing performance feedback.
- Coach team members when performance improvement is needed.
- Encourage the team to contribute to store goals and action plans.
- Ensure staff presentation reflects the company image and dress code.
- Track and manage staff leave records.
Security and compliance
- Ensure store security procedures are followed at all times.
- Maintain strong awareness around stock protection and cash handling.
Professional conduct
- Take corrective action or apply progressive discipline when required.
- Show dependability, punctuality, and reliability in daily work.
- Keep employee and employment-related information strictly confidential.
- Operate with a high level of integrity and ethical judgment.
Experience and education
The preferred candidate will have more than 3 years of progressive experience in a customer-focused retail environment, along with solid people management and leadership capabilities. A record of improving customer engagement and delivering or exceeding sales KPI targets is expected. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, retail management, or a related discipline is preferred.
