Job description
Overview
This is a full-time permanent opportunity with Babcock International Group for an Assistant Building Custodian based in Bovington near Wareham, Dorset. The position offers a salary of £27,276.60 plus benefits and is focused on helping essential defence and engineering facilities operate safely, securely, and efficiently.
In this hands-on role, you will contribute to the upkeep of buildings, equipment, and site infrastructure, making sure operational standards are consistently maintained across the workplace.
Key duties
- Unlock and secure buildings, ensuring all spaces remain safe, controlled, and ready for use.
- Log and escalate building defects, repair requirements, and infrastructure concerns.
- Complete routine fire safety inspections, including checks on alarms and extinguishers.
- Manage keys and oversee access arrangements for internal and external training areas.
- Assist with equipment inspections, stock monitoring, and the upkeep of accurate records and databases.
Working pattern
The role is site-based at Bovington. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, for a total of 40 hours each week.
Essential experience and skills
- Background in stores, facilities support, or a comparable operational setting.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office or similar software to maintain records and database information.
- Strong customer service approach with clear verbal and written communication skills.
Requirements
- A full UK driving licence with at least Category B entitlement.
- Ability to obtain and keep Security Check (SC) clearance.
- Awareness that eligibility for some roles may depend on nationality, citizenship history, place of birth, or residency status because of security and trade control rules.
