Role Overview
The Assistant Athletic Director for Communication & Content leads the athletic department’s public communications, media outreach, and storytelling efforts. The position helps shape how all intercollegiate sports are presented, using strategic messaging, social media, digital content, and broadcast support to raise the department’s profile, showcase student-athlete success, and keep information accurate and up to date across 12 NJCAA sports.
Key Duties
- Act as the main point of contact for sports information and athletic communications.
- Create and carry out a department-wide communications plan that supports all 12 sports programs.
- Handle creative projects from initial idea through final delivery, featuring athletes, coaches, and staff.
- Develop and sustain strong working relationships with local, regional, and national media.
- Publicize athletic achievements, records, honors, and special events.
- Manage athletics web content, including schedules, rosters, bios, results, news, and promotional pages.
- Use new tools and ideas to strengthen social media presence and engagement.
- Run official athletics social channels with fresh, timely, and audience-focused content.
- Create graphics, images, videos, and other multimedia assets that support athletics promotion.
- Maintain consistent branding across digital channels and online platforms.
- Coordinate live streaming, photography, and broadcast assistance for home games and events.
- Oversee game-day media operations for all home contests.
- Prepare media credentials, programs, scripts, and press-box materials.
- Supervise student workers, interns, and event staff who support communications duties.
- Keep team and individual records, archives, rosters, schedules, and historical information accurate and current.
- Manage live statistics and distribution of postgame statistical reports.
- Support NJCAA reporting needs related to rankings, awards, postseason play, and statistical submissions.
- Research historical information for awards, ceremonies, and other institutional requests.
- Serve as home game administrator for selected events.
- Represent the athletic program with both internal and external college stakeholders.
- Help plan budgets and equipment requirements for sports information functions.
- Ensure all communication work follows college policies and branding standards.
- Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, sports management, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of directly relevant experience.
- Strong collaboration, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and time management skills.
- Comfort with computer software, typing/word processing, internet research, data review, and multi-tasking.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and maintain a professional demeanor.
- Willingness to work outside standard business hours as needed.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, and drive as part of the role.
- Moderate travel is required.
- If travel is required, the candidate must hold and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Background
- A master’s degree in communications, graphic design, sports management, public relations, or a related field.
- Experience in athletic administration at the collegiate or professional level, or in a comparable environment.
- Hands-on experience with desktop publishing and creative software such as Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
- Working knowledge of content management systems, ideally Presto Sports or Sidearm.
- Comfort working with athletics operations, sports statistics, and video production.
- Understanding of NJCAA and NCAA rules and regulations.
