The opportunity
PTG Group is hiring an Assistant Accountant at an important growth point for the business. This role is designed to give an early-career accountant strong exposure, with day-to-day interaction with the CFO and the wider finance team. You will work across a complex, multi-entity structure and contribute to core reporting, process refinement, and finance system improvements.
The position is well suited to someone looking to strengthen technical accounting capability, build commercial awareness, and move toward a professional accounting qualification.

Compensation
The salary for this role is AUD 75,000 to AUD 85,000 per year, excluding superannuation.
Key responsibilities
This role covers financial reporting, management reporting, audit support, receivables, systems improvement, and broader finance assistance.
- Support the preparation of accurate month-end reporting across multiple entities.
- Create and post journals, accruals, and other accounting entries.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding reconciling items.
- Help maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Assist with variance analysis by reviewing and investigating material changes in financial performance.
- Collect context and commentary from operational stakeholders when needed.
- Prepare documentation and working papers suitable for external audit review.
- Maintain complete and reliable financial records and supporting evidence.
- Help ensure accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls are followed.
- Contribute to stronger financial governance and better reporting processes.
- Monitor customer accounts and overdue balances.
- Support debt collection follow-up and debtor management activities.
- Assist with cash flow management through timely receivables reporting.
- Look for ways to improve finance workflows and reporting efficiency.
- Support finance system upgrades, enhancements, and automation work.
- Help create and standardise process documentation across the group.
- Provide general support to the finance team as required.
- Take part in ad hoc analysis, reporting tasks, and project work.
- Develop productive working relationships with internal stakeholders across the business.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a closely related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts.
- Intermediate-level Microsoft Excel capability.
- High attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience in an accounting or finance role is preferred.
- Exposure to a multi-entity business environment is desirable.
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting software is an advantage.
- Background in engineering, construction, professional services, or project-based industries is beneficial.
