Job description
About the Role
Spier & Mackay is seeking an Art Director to lead the brand’s visual output and ensure every creative asset reflects its established aesthetic. The visual direction, brand language, and customer profile are already in place; this role is responsible for translating that framework into polished, consistent execution.
This position blends creative leadership with hands-on production management. You will shape the shot plan, oversee the photoshoot from concept through delivery, and coordinate the practical elements that make the work happen, including casting, location sourcing, and collaboration with vendors.
In day-to-day work, you will partner directly with the founder while directing the stylist and photographer on set so that all content associated with the Spier & Mackay name aligns with the brand’s standards.
Responsibilities
Pre-production
- Create detailed shot lists, mood boards, and reference materials for each shoot.
- Handle scouting for locations and selecting talent for casting.
- Provide the stylist with clear direction on wardrobe choices and the desired set approach before production begins.
On set
- Guide the talent, set composition, and lighting so they stay true to the brand’s visual identity.
- Make fast creative calls as situations change during the shoot.
- Check that the styling appears consistent and on-brand in every frame.
Post-production
- Oversee image selection by reviewing and approving the final picks before retouching.
- Evaluate and sign off on the retouched final images prior to delivery.
- Ensure the visual standard remains consistent across e-commerce, lookbook, editorial, and social content.
Ongoing
- Develop and sustain long-term relationships with vendors, agencies, and locations.
- Help refine and advance the brand’s visual identity as the company expands.
Requirements
- 5 to 8 years of experience in creative direction within fashion or lifestyle, supported by a portfolio that shows both range and reliable execution quality.
- Prior experience managing the full shoot workflow, not only the conceptual side.
- Strong menswear awareness is considered an advantage.
- Ability to quickly understand the brand guide and recognize whether the aesthetic fits your creative sensibility.
Additional Information
The role is based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and is structured as a full-time, on-site position.
