Job description
Company Overview
This studio is a design-led architecture practice with a construction-centered approach, focused mainly on upscale interior renovations across New York City. Its projects often involve complete interior gut renovations in single-family apartments, including challenging pre-war buildings that call for inventive design thinking and careful project coordination.
The practice works at the point where design, engineering, and execution meet. Concepts are only considered successful when they can be built well, and the team places strong value on coordination, constructability, and clear communication with clients. That approach creates a more integrated experience from design through documentation and construction, helping reduce stress, accelerate schedules, and keep budgets in check. The team is small, ambitious, and expects every member to contribute meaningfully.
Role Summary
The Architectural Designer II will work with a high level of independence and will be expected to think ahead, own deliverables, and contribute both to project delivery and to the firm’s growth. The role suits someone who has worked in larger firms, learned best practices, and now wants to bring that experience to a growing practice where their work can have a visible impact.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Columbus Circle, New York City. The selected candidate will participate across the full project lifecycle, from early design development through construction, while also helping improve how the firm documents, coordinates, and delivers its work.
What You Will Do
- Prepare well-coordinated drawing sets from schematic design through construction documents.
- Identify technical and coordination issues early and work to resolve them before they reach the job site.
- Develop material palettes, mood boards, and presentations for client review.
- Take part in client meetings and design conversations.
- Support construction administration activities when needed.
- Assist with fabrication coordination and mock-up development where required.
- Take full ownership of deliverables from concept through final delivery, with responsibility for quality and client readiness.
Role Expectations
- Work independently with a strong sense of accountability and without needing close supervision.
- Lead your own scope while staying ahead of problems and project needs.
- Contribute ideas that can influence how the firm operates, documents, and expands.
- Maintain a construction-focused mindset rather than treating the work as purely conceptual design.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in an architecture or construction-oriented office.
- Solid experience producing construction drawings and detailed documentation, not only concept design.
- Background in construction administration and field coordination.
- Ability to anticipate issues and coordinate proactively across trades.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with clients and contractors.
- Excellent organization and the ability to manage several deadlines at once.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of NYC codes and regulations, with oversight from the owner.
Software and Technical Skills
- Advanced to expert-level Revit experience.
- Advanced to expert-level Enscape experience.
- Working proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Working proficiency in SketchUp.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong 3D representation and visualization skills.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary for this role is $90,000 to $105,000 per year. In addition, there is an annual bonus tied to both personal and company performance.
Benefits include 100% employer coverage for healthcare, dental, and vision insurance.
Work Environment
The company describes itself as a small, high-standard team with a startup-like mindset. Systems, standards, and processes are actively being built, and the role offers a chance to shape how the firm works as it grows. This is a construction-forward environment where practical buildability and execution are central to every design decision.
Additional Notes
The ideal candidate is someone who has already seen how larger firms operate and wants to apply that experience in a smaller setting where individual contribution has a direct effect. Pride in the quality of work, ownership of deliverables, and the ability to produce at a high standard are essential.
