Job description

About the role

SPR Consulting is an advisory practice focused on climate change, energy economics, and the built environment. The team combines strong analytical work with a practical understanding of how policy is shaped and implemented. They are looking for a sharp, motivated analyst to contribute to meaningful client work.

What you will do

  • Create and maintain quantitative models for energy and economic analysis.
  • Assess policy design and evaluate the likely effects of policy choices.
  • Write reports, briefings, and submissions in the firm’s preferred style.
  • Assist with client engagements and respond to client questions.
  • Keep building subject-matter knowledge and contribute to the firm’s expertise.

Role details

This position reports to Senior Consultants Liam and Reuben. It is based in the Melbourne CBD office and is an initial 12-month fixed-term role.

What they are looking for

The company values people who are intelligent, ambitious, and comfortable tackling difficult problems. Graduates as well as candidates with several years of experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Strong Excel and quantitative ability, including comfort building models and working with numbers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to non-specialists.
  • Strong critical thinking, including the habit of questioning results and information received.
  • Curiosity and a genuine interest in understanding how things work.
  • Confidence to take on challenging work even when the answer is not immediately clear.

A university degree is not mandatory. Candidates without a degree should be able to demonstrate that they have been doing something interesting or substantive instead.

Preferred background

  • Exposure to energy, climate, economics, public policy, or the built environment.
  • Prior experience managing work within budgets.

Use of AI

SPR values high-quality, original work and sees human expertise as central to pushing knowledge forward. The firm is open to the responsible use of advanced AI tools, provided they support good work rather than replace independent thinking.

  • You should be able to complete the work without AI support if needed.
  • AI should be used to extend the ambition of your work, not to do the thinking for you.
  • Your output must sound human and professional, not generated by AI.

What is offered

  • The chance to work on projects with genuine real-world impact.
  • A compact team environment with room to grow and take on leadership.
  • Competitive pay along with bonus opportunities tied to company performance.

Application process

Applicants should expect a thorough but efficient process. Every application will be reviewed by the team, and all candidates will receive a response. If shortlisted, candidates will complete a short activity before progressing to interview and reference checks.

Application instructions

Submit a two-page CV and a one-page cover letter explaining your interest in the work and why you are the right fit for the role.

Work authorisation

Candidates must already have the legal right to work in Australia.
