Job description

About GovernLens

GovernLens is building an AI-first operating system for political professionals. Political shifts influence markets and organizations, but making sense of them is often slow, fragmented, and expensive. The platform addresses this by transforming parliamentary records, news coverage, and stakeholder signals into actionable strategic intelligence for Members of Parliament, public affairs consultancies, and corporate teams.

The company’s broader purpose is to support better democratic decision-making through political intelligence that is transparent and grounded in facts.

Role overview

As a working student, you will contribute to real product development alongside the founding team rather than working on isolated side projects. You will typically work around 20 hours per week, with flexibility around university classes and the option to increase hours during semester breaks.

What you will work on

  • LLM and RAG engineering: create retrieval pipelines, prompt structures, agent-based workflows, and evaluation setups, then help move prototypes into production.
  • Data ingestion and knowledge graph work: build ingestion jobs for parliamentary, news, and stakeholder data, and organize information so downstream AI systems can reason over it effectively.
  • Full-stack feature delivery: develop across TypeScript and Python, contributing to frontend work, backend APIs, and data pipelines across the product stack.
  • Production collaboration and mentorship: work closely with the founders on architecture, code reviews, and deployments, and gain exposure to how a startup delivers under real customer pressure.

Candidate profile

You should be currently enrolled in a Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or closely related program, and bring strong foundations in software engineering.

You need practical experience with TypeScript and Python, plus the ability to move comfortably between frontend work, APIs, and data tasks. Familiarity with LLMs, RAG, prompt design, vector databases, or agent-based systems is expected.

A strong builder mindset matters: you like shipping, use AI-assisted development workflows naturally, and are genuinely curious about politics, artificial intelligence, or both.

Why join GovernLens

  • Work on a mission-driven product with real social and political impact, where your code is used by Members of Parliament and political consultancies.
  • Take ownership in a young, collaborative, and fast-moving team that values your ideas as much as your output.
  • Work directly with the founders on engineering decisions, architecture, and code quality while using a modern AI-focused technology stack including TypeScript, Python, LLM APIs, vector databases, and agentic workflows.
  • Gain startup experience from the inside and have the opportunity to grow into a long-term full-time role; thesis collaboration may also be possible.
  • Join a team recognized by leading institutions, including presentations in the German Bundestag and support from TUM, Cyber Valley, UnternehmerTUM, and the Public Value Academy.

Job details

This is a paid working student position for approximately 20 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility around academic commitments. The role is based in Munich in a hybrid setup. The planned start date is 01.07.2026.
