Position overview
This contract opportunity runs for 6 months and is based in Nashville, TN in a hybrid setup. The Agile Scrum Master I will help teams adopt Agile ways of working, coach Assistant Scrum Masters, and work closely with Product Owners to keep product backlogs clear, actionable, and aligned with business priorities. The role focuses on strengthening Agile maturity, encouraging continuous improvement, and supporting value delivery at the domain level while maintaining reliable project tracking and adherence to Agile best practices.
What you will do
- Coach Assistant Scrum Masters and team members to reinforce Agile thinking and day-to-day practices.
- Support Product Owners in shaping MVPs, planning roadmaps, and refining backlog items for Quarterly Roadmap Planning.
- Run Pod-level Agile ceremonies such as daily standups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Join and help guide OKR planning conversations and roadmap review meetings.
- Set up Sprint 0 by preparing the team, ceremonies, and boards for delivery readiness.
- Work with Product Owners on regular backlog refinement so items are ready for planning and tied to OKRs.
- Ensure sprint goals connect with roadmap objectives and that user stories are clear and well-formed.
- Support Agile learning for Pod members through onboarding and ongoing training.
- Track Pod metrics, review performance patterns, and lead problem-solving discussions that support improvement.
- Facilitate retrospectives to surface opportunities for better ways of working and stronger Agile maturity.
- Promote technical practices such as BDD and TDD.
- Identify, record, and follow risks, issues, and dependencies across Pods, escalating or resolving them with the right stakeholders.
- Remove blockers or escalate impediments that slow down delivery.
- Keep the team aligned, maintain a healthy ceremony rhythm, and influence outcomes without formal authority.
- Coordinate with DevOps teams on release planning and visibility, especially for integration and testing phases.
- Help teams use Azure DevOps effectively, including sprint boards, queries, dashboards, and reporting.
Engagement details
This position is classified as a contract role with a 6-month duration. The work location is Nashville, TN, with hybrid work expectations.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in Scrum Master or Agile project management roles, including running Agile ceremonies and mentoring team members, is required.
- About 2 years of experience with DevOps practices and tools such as Azure DevOps, along with continuous integration and testing workflows, is preferred.
- An equivalent mix of education and experience may be accepted.
- A Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) credential or a similar Agile certification, such as PMI-ACP, SAFe Scrum Master, PSM 2, or CSPO, is required.
- Ability to deliver strong service and quality standards with a focus on exceptional patient care is required.
