Job description
About the company
Contact is focused on helping power life in Aotearoa while advancing the energy transition. The business provides power, broadband, and mobile services, and is also investing in renewable energy and new ways of working that are more connected and effective. Its purpose is to leave Aotearoa better than it was found.
The organisation is guided by tikanga and places strong value on care, collaboration, and positive impact for people and communities. Within the Retail division, the business is entering a period of growth with greater emphasis on innovation, customer experience, and brand, backed by stronger data and delivery capability.
This contract role is positioned at the centre of that change, supporting squads working on growth initiatives such as customer segmentation and digital experiences while helping teams stay effective in a changing environment.
Role overview
This is a 6-month contract for an Agile Scrum Lead who can step in quickly and support squads delivering customer-focused work in a Retail setting. The role is about creating the right conditions for delivery, strengthening team capability, and maintaining momentum in a fast-moving environment.
What you'll do
- Partner with Product Owners, delivery leads, and stakeholders to keep squads aligned and progressing toward common goals.
- Run Agile ceremonies that create clarity, structure, and momentum for the team.
- Coach squads and Product Owners so they become more confident in Agile practices and more effective overall.
- Support backlog refinement, prioritisation, and planning so work is clearly understood and ready to move forward.
- Identify and help remove delivery blockers, including situations where priorities shift or constraints arise.
- Develop strong working relationships across business and technology groups to keep communication open and expectations aligned.
- Promote continuous improvement by helping teams reflect, learn, and improve how they work.
The work will involve meaningful delivery, active stakeholder engagement, and strong momentum, alongside the complexity and uncertainty that often come with a changing environment.
What we're looking for
You’ll be a steady, practical presence who can bring order and movement to busy delivery settings while also supporting people, not just process.
- Background as a Scrum Lead or in a comparable Agile role, with the ability to contribute effectively from day one.
- Comfort leading Agile ceremonies and working across several stakeholders and squads.
- A coaching approach that helps others build capability and succeed.
- Strong relationship-building, influencing, and communication skills across different levels of the organisation.
- Experience supporting technology delivery teams and digital initiatives.
- Ease working amid shifting priorities, changing plans, and a degree of ambiguity.
- A grounded mindset that can balance realism with optimism when managing trade-offs and constraints.
- Working knowledge of Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, or similar platforms.
Most importantly, the role suits someone who puts people first and understands that strong outcomes come from strong teams.
Additional information
This contract is based in Auckland, Wellington, or Tauranga, with flexibility to work from one of the main hubs to support in-person collaboration. The company supports flexible working where it works for the individual, the team, and the business, but proximity to a main hub is important for this role.
Applications close on Monday 13th July. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early.
Culture and inclusion
The organisation values belonging and aims to create a workplace where people feel respected, included, and able to bring their whole selves to work. It is committed to reflecting the diversity of customers and communities and to supporting a broad range of perspectives and experiences.
The hiring process is designed to be inclusive and to reduce bias. Employee wellbeing is supported through initiatives and resources that cover physical, mental, financial, and emotional wellbeing, including flexible working arrangements, employee network groups, and a market-leading parental leave policy.
Candidates from every age, stage, background, and identity are welcome. If you believe you can do the work but do not meet every requirement listed, you are still encouraged to express interest.
Eligibility and hiring notes
Only candidates with the right to live and work in New Zealand will be considered.
The organisation does not accept CVs from recruitment agencies unless a formal agreement has already been confirmed with its talent team.
