Job description

About SJ Group and SMEC

SJ Group is a global urban and infrastructure consultancy with more than 75 years of project delivery experience. Across its member companies, the group combines worldwide expertise with local insight to help shape communities, skylines, and everyday environments. SMEC, part of the SJ Group, focuses on improving infrastructure outcomes and creating positive impact for people, clients, communities, and the environment.

The wider organisation operates through a network of 16,000 client-focused specialists across more than 120 offices in over 40 countries.

Role Overview

SMEC is looking for a highly organised and detail-driven Pursuits & Submissions Advisor to join its Brisbane team. This is a permanent full-time opportunity offering a hybrid and flexible work setup. The role supports pursuit activities across the ANZ region and other markets as needed.

You will oversee the full lifecycle of proposals and supporting submission material, making sure everything is completed on time, aligned with brand standards, and produced to a high professional level. The position involves close coordination with internal teams and external partners to help deliver strong winning bids and improve submission quality over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pursuit planning and work-winning strategy by working with pursuit leaders on bid approach, win themes, and value propositions.
  • Run bid workshops and storyboarding sessions to shape responses and sharpen key messages.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end preparation of EOIs, proposals, and submissions for ANZ and other regions when required.
  • Gather and align contributions from technical specialists and stakeholders so work stays on schedule and matches the submission plan.
  • Keep proposal content current, including CVs, project profiles, and company capability material.
  • Help improve bid processes and templates to make delivery smoother and raise overall quality.
  • Assist the broader team to ensure submissions are completed by deadline and to a consistently high standard.
  • Develop productive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Manage client procurement portals and associated submission requirements where needed.

About You

You should be proactive, meticulous, and comfortable working in a corporate environment. The role suits someone who can confidently influence subject matter experts, turn technical detail into clear client-facing content, and stay calm under pressure while managing multiple priorities.

Requirements

  • A qualification in marketing, business, or a related field is preferred, although equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in bid coordination, submissions, or marketing is required.
  • Proven ability to create strong proposals within tight deadlines and manage overlapping priorities.
  • Understanding of client needs and the ability to convert them into compelling submission content.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and persuasive storytelling skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for outcomes.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will join a collaborative work-winning team and gain exposure to a broad range of infrastructure pursuits and senior leaders across the ANZ region.

SMEC states that recruitment is managed through its Recruitment & Talent function, and agency involvement is not required for this vacancy. Unsolicited resumes sent directly to employees or managers are not accepted, and the company is not liable for any related fees.

The organisation also highlights its broader culture of talent, teamwork, hard work, and a fun workplace, with a focus on creative and collaborative problem-solving.
