Role overview
Awanui Labs - Northland, formerly known as Northland Pathology Laboratory, delivers diagnostic pathology services to patients, clinicians, and the wider community. The Northland laboratory is part of Awanui Group, previously called Asia Pacific Healthcare Group, a healthcare organisation focused on providing high-quality facilities and services.
About the role
This permanent part-time Administration Officer position is based in Whangārei, Northland. The role sits within the administration team and is varied, hands-on, and important to the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
You will help keep patient and test records accurate, handle phone and email enquiries, assist with occasional courier work, and support a range of general office tasks. The position calls for strong accuracy, a helpful customer-focused approach, and the confidence to work both independently and as part of a busy team.
Work pattern
The role includes 40 hours per fortnight, scheduled as 8-hour shifts on a rotating pattern of 2 days in one week and 3 days in the following week. Shifts fall between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm.
Key responsibilities
- Enter information into the Laboratory Information System carefully and accurately.
- Handle telephone calls in a courteous and prompt manner.
- Track and manage incoming email communication.
- Support occasional courier runs when needed.
- Prepare patient lists and assist with organising the home visit service.
- Keep records up to date and help support efficient, high-quality laboratory operations.
What you need to bring
To succeed in this role, you should be a dependable and self-motivated person with a strong eye for detail and a professional manner. Clear communication and a confident phone presence are essential, along with solid computer literacy and the ability to work accurately within structured systems.
You will also need to stay well organised, manage priorities effectively, and maintain quality under pressure in a fast-moving environment. A flexible and positive mindset, together with a willingness to contribute to improvement, is important.
Experience in medical or laboratory administration and familiarity with medical terminology would be helpful, but it is not compulsory.
Eligibility
Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
What the employer values
The team operates around three core values that shape an inclusive and respectful workplace: caring for each other and the people they serve, continuously improving and adapting to create success, and delivering the highest standard of medical and scientific expertise.
Additional information
The laboratory is described as highly automated and technically advanced, with a strong service focus for patients and healthcare professionals. The organisation also offers access to an internal Learning and Development team to help strengthen skills, support professional competence, and encourage career growth.
Interested candidates were encouraged to apply before the closing date of 30 June 2026.
