Role overview
This position focuses on managing accounts payable operations, ensuring that company policies are followed, and making sure commitments and liabilities are settled accurately and on time.
Key responsibilities
- Support the creation and upkeep of accounting policy and procedure manuals, and help ensure they are followed across the department.
- Process supplier invoices within the agreed payment terms.
- Keep complete records and supporting documents for all spending and related transactions.
- Examine supplier accounts, invoices, and claims to confirm payment accuracy.
- Handle purchase orders and invoices only after the required approvals, so supplier payments are issued correctly and on schedule.
- Manage payment vouchers and oversee petty cash disbursements.
- Maintain accurate control of the accounts payable general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
- Perform GL-level reconciliations for AP accounts, including employee advances and loan accounts.
- Review AP accruals and carry out month-end reconciliation activities.
- Work with internal and external auditors, respond to queries, and support audit requirements.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial reports and information for management.
- Compute contingent, contracting, and employment-related liabilities and ensure they are properly recorded.
- Maintain accounting records in line with GAAP, IFRS, and IAS requirements.
- Take on additional finance-related duties as assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, in Accounting or Finance is required. Professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, or ACCA are considered an advantage. The role requires 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a similar position, along with practical exposure to financial accounting and/or financial reporting. Strong knowledge of GAAP or IFRS is expected.
Language and technical skills
English, both written and spoken, is essential. Arabic is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable using MS Office and financial management systems, and should also bring strong communication, influencing, stakeholder management, relationship-building, negotiation, data analysis, forecasting, and reporting skills.
