Staff/Principal Systems Architect

The role

Join the PowerVR architecture group, which develops ultra-low-power GPU IP cores used around the world. The team is expanding and is looking for an experienced GPU specialist to help shape the next generations of PowerVR architecture. In this position, you will partner closely with senior company leaders to influence the GPU roadmap and define the architecture for upcoming products. What you'll do

• Collaborate with a small, highly driven team of GPU architects focused on efficiency.
• Track industry developments and assess how they should influence GPU design.
• Engage with stakeholders to collect ideas, needs, and product requirements.
• Own the investigation, definition, and delivery of detailed architecture feature specifications.
• Carry out in-depth analysis to meet targets for power, performance, area, and bandwidth.
• Partner with the research team to translate novel algorithms into efficient implementations.
• Work with modelling specialists to test new concepts and establish performance goals.
• Contribute to the product roadmap by defining technology directions that improve PPA and features with each generation.
• Support implementation, design, and verification activities.
• Review performance data with the performance team and confirm completed designs meet PPA and bandwidth objectives.
• Take part in engineering reviews and suggest practical improvements.
• Help steer the long-term technology direction of the GPU family.
• Coordinate with major customers and relevant standards bodies, including Khronos, when needed.
• File patents for your inventions.

Required experience and capabilities

• Hands-on experience with GPU architecture or other large, complex systems.
• Solid understanding of modern 3D graphics and/or compute APIs such as Vulkan, D3D12, and OpenCL.
• Working knowledge of digital ASIC design methods and constraints.
• Ability to plan, estimate, and track your own workload effectively.
• Experience leading architecture exploration work through to clear and practical feature specifications.
• Understanding of design and verification challenges, with the judgement to make trade-offs that improve engineering return on investment.
• Strong skill in explaining technical issues clearly and defending decisions to different audiences.

Nice to have

• Strong background in mathematics and algorithms.
• Exposure to digital video.
• Experience creating micro-architecture specifications.
• Ability to analyse performance using hardware waveforms.
• Experience studying driver and compiler performance.
• Knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO26262.
