Role overview

The sonographer will carry out ultrasound examinations and support related clinical procedures while maintaining high standards of patient care, imaging quality, equipment upkeep, and infection control.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out diagnostic ultrasound scans, with or without contrast media, and produce images that support accurate diagnosis while respecting patient comfort, dignity, and safety.
• Apply the most suitable scanning methods for each patient based on clinical presentation and departmental and professional standards.
• Look after patients during examinations in line with their illness, condition, and diagnostic needs.
• Take part in shift duties, on-call coverage, and rostered rotations at Raffles Hospital or satellite radiology clinics.
• Provide support during mass casualty situations or when covering colleagues on annual or medical leave.
• Monitor the working condition of ultrasound machines and accessories in the assigned area and keep the examination room clean and orderly.
• Escalate any equipment malfunction to the Senior, Principal, or Lead Radiographer so servicing can be arranged.
• Confirm that the correct patient and target area are examined, imaged, and labelled properly.
• Set up the equipment and supplies needed for sonography procedures.
• Assist radiologists during ultrasound-guided procedures and support surgeons in the operating theatre when required.
• Ensure each ultrasound study is clinically useful and verify patient identification before the patient leaves the department.
• Follow infection prevention practices, including safe sharps and biohazard disposal, hand hygiene, and hand rub protocols after each procedure.

Requirements

• A recognised and relevant diploma, postgraduate qualification, or degree, or an equivalent credential.
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
