Senior Windows System Administrator

Position Overview

This role is for a seasoned Windows System Administrator who will keep the organization’s IT environment stable, secure, and running efficiently. The position focuses on administering Windows servers, identity services, virtualization, and storage systems, while also supporting users and protecting business operations through dependable backup and disaster recovery practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Run and support Windows servers, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and user account administration.
• Oversee permissions, access controls, credentials, and storage assignments.
• Install, set up, patch, and upgrade hardware, operating systems, and application software.
• Track system health, performance, uptime, and capacity, and address issues before they escalate.
• Put in place and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and failover arrangements to protect company data.
• Administer virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V, along with related infrastructure.
• Create and maintain automation scripts, including PowerShell, to reduce manual administrative work.
• Apply security standards, patching discipline, and system hardening practices across the environment.
• Support cloud and hybrid setups such as Azure Active Directory and Microsoft 365 when needed.
• Work with vendors and internal IT teams on hardware refreshes, replacements, and related coordination.
• Keep documentation, procedures, and technical specifications accurate and up to date.
• Share knowledge, provide guidance, and help train IT colleagues and end users on tools and best practices.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field; equivalent hands-on experience is also acceptable.
• Professional certifications are preferred, including Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, MCSE, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or CompTIA Server+/Security+.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in Windows system administration or a comparable position.
• Practical experience handling enterprise-scale server and virtualization environments.
• Proven ability to build and maintain secure, resilient IT infrastructure.
• Strong command of Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019, and 2022 administration.
• Working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services.
• Experience with VMware and Hyper-V virtualization technologies.
• Hands-on expertise with backup platforms, especially Symantec NetBackup and Veeam.
• Understanding of storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, and iSCSI.
• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation capability.
• Knowledge of monitoring, performance tuning, and patch management practices.
• Working understanding of networking basics, including TCP/IP, VPN, LAN, and WAN.
• Awareness of security controls such as hardening, endpoint protection, and auditing.
• Exposure to Azure and Microsoft 365 is considered an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
• Excellent documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
• Ability to coach users and internal staff on systems and new technologies.
