Role overview
The Safety Coordinator is tasked with maintaining a secure workplace by spotting hazards, strengthening safety compliance, and supporting a proactive safety mindset across the organization. The position involves carrying out inspections, delivering safety training, helping manage emergency readiness, and ensuring that workplace safety measures align with applicable laws and standards.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Safety Officer in shaping and putting into practice workplace safety and health policies and procedures.
- Carry out routine inspections and audits to uncover hazards and verify statutory compliance.
- Plan and deliver safety training for employees at different levels.
- Look into incidents and accidents, determine the underlying causes, and suggest corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Keep detailed documentation of audits, incidents, training activities, and compliance-related records.
- Work with employees and leadership to strengthen safety practices continuously.
- Assess risks and apply practical measures to reduce or control them.
- Create, revise, and coordinate emergency response plans, including drill exercises.
- Lead or support safety initiatives and project-based improvements.
- Stay current with updates to workplace safety regulations, industry standards, and emerging best practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in workplace safety and health.
- Diploma in any discipline or an equivalent qualification.
- WSQ Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health (Level B).
- Valid Building Construction Supervisor Safety (BCSS) certificate.
- Strong understanding of the Workplace Safety and Health Act and related statutory obligations.
- Good communication and people skills for working with staff, management, and external agencies.
- Proven leadership ability to guide safety teams and reinforce accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for hazard assessment and control planning.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
- Committed to safety excellence and ongoing improvement.
