About Meridian Energy
Meridian Energy is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest producer of renewable electricity, drawing power from wind, water, and solar energy. The company’s purpose is rooted in sustainability, community impact, and supporting the country’s energy transition.
About the role
This is a two-year fixed-term, site-based position for a hands-on supervisor who can coordinate people, contractors, and work activities to help deliver the Ōhau Electrical Programme across the Upper Waitaki sites. You will act as the main on-site contact for the Electrical Programme team and help make sure work is planned, sequenced, and carried out safely from installation through commissioning, operational handover, and final close-out.
The role involves close collaboration with Project Managers, Programme Managers, Site Engineers, contractors, site teams, and operational stakeholders. You will help manage daily site activity, support safe work systems, control site access and inductions, and keep work moving within outage windows and programme limits. Success in this role depends on strong relationship-building, clear communication, the ability to influence without formal authority, and a consistent focus on critical risk management in a high-risk hydro environment.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate day-to-day site operations for the electrical programme.
- Support safe delivery of work across installation, commissioning, handover, and close-out stages.
- Work with project, programme, engineering, contractor, and operations teams to align site activities.
- Help manage site access, inductions, and worksite coordination.
- Promote and reinforce safe work practices in a high-risk hydro setting.
- Track progress against outage windows and programme constraints.
- Build trusted relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.
- Speak up when safety, quality, or coordination issues need attention.
What you’ll bring
You should have experience in complex infrastructure, technical capital projects, or multi-disciplinary site work, ideally in electrical, mechanical, or automation environments. A practical understanding of health and safety responsibilities, strong contractor coordination capability, and a proactive problem-solving mindset are important for success.
We are looking for someone who is collaborative, confident in raising concerns, and motivated by delivering safe and well-organised outcomes that reflect Meridian’s values of being gutsy, being a good human, and being in the waka.
