Role Overview
Double Cone Limited is a specialist consultancy working across civil engineering, Engineer to the Contract, project management, and development management in the Central Lakes region. With a strong pipeline of approved subdivision and land development work, the company is looking for a Project Manager with a civil engineering background to join the team from August 2026.
This position is suited to someone who wants close involvement with project delivery, client relationships, and final outcomes. The role sits within a small, high-performing team and reports directly to the Directors, giving you real ownership of your work rather than being one layer in a large corporate structure.
What the Role Involves
You will be accountable for delivering subdivision and infrastructure projects from construction through to completion. The role requires you to coordinate project programmes, work with contractors and consultants, and maintain strong communication with councils and clients to keep work moving safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. As your experience grows, the position can also broaden into client-side development management.
Key Duties
- Administer contracts and issue certifications under NZS 3910
- Oversee civil contractors and manage day-to-day project activity
- Track programme, budget, and project risks
- Review and manage variations to the agreed scope
- Monitor construction progress and prepare reports
- Ensure health, safety, and environmental requirements are being followed
- Coordinate approvals and maintain contact with local authorities
- Work with surveyors, civil designers, and specialist consultants
- Use tools such as Procore, Smartsheet, Microsoft Excel, and Word for project administration
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will bring more than five years of experience in land development, three waters engineering, civil construction, or project management. You should understand subdivision development and civil infrastructure delivery, and be comfortable with NZS 3910 contract administration.
A solid grounding in civil design is needed, particularly around earthworks, stormwater, and wastewater infrastructure. The role also calls for strong communication skills, confident stakeholder management, and the ability to work independently with a proactive mindset.
A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering such as BEng, NZDE, DipEng, or an equivalent qualification is required. Applicants must also be New Zealand residents or hold a valid work visa.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Direct access to experienced Directors
- No heavy corporate structure or multiple management layers
- A varied portfolio of challenging subdivision work
- A strong pipeline of secured projects
- Regular client contact and decision-making responsibility
- Scope to grow into development management
- Competitive remuneration package
- Company vehicle, laptop, and phone provided
- Flexible and supportive workplace culture
