Role Overview
The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator will help run and strengthen Uncommon.org’s MEL function across the organisation’s programme portfolio. This includes Core Support and Capacity Building, Bootcamp and Youth Coding, Teacher Training, and the Startup Incubator. The purpose of the role is to produce reliable data and evidence, analyse it, and use it to assess programme performance, show impact, and support decision-making.
Working alongside the M&E Manager, Programme Managers, and Coordinators across all Uncommon hubs, the coordinator will oversee data collection workflows, maintain dependable data systems, support performance reporting, and encourage strong data quality and accountability. The role also contributes to tracking organisational and donor results frameworks, strengthening learning across the organisation, and promoting evidence-based programme improvement and adaptive management.
The preferred candidate will be highly organised, analytical, detail-focused, collaborative, and committed to ethical data handling and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Help implement and continuously improve the organisation’s monitoring and evaluation framework across all programme areas, aligned to the JNF grant logframe.
- Update and maintain M&E tools, templates, and supporting documentation so that standards remain consistent across programmes.
- Assist with preparations for internal reviews and the external evaluation planned during the grant period.
- Lead primary data collection activities such as surveys, focus group discussions, and structured interviews with participants and stakeholders.
- Ensure that data collection, storage, analysis, and reporting follow organisational rules on data protection, confidentiality, and ethics.
- Keep beneficiary databases accurate, up to date, and securely managed across all programme locations.
- Support data analysis by producing summary statistics, trend reviews, and progress tracking against logframe targets.
- Contribute data and written inputs for monthly, quarterly, annual, and donor reports.
- Track reporting deadlines and help ensure compliance with organisational and donor reporting requirements.
- Coordinate alumni follow-up for the Startup Incubator programme, including six-month and twelve-month assessments.
- Support programme teams in interpreting monitoring data and applying it to improve results and decision-making.
- Promote safeguarding, child protection, and code of conduct standards during all monitoring and evaluation work.
- Train programme Coordinators and relevant staff on M&E tools, data collection processes, and reporting expectations.
- Maintain the M&E documentation library, including survey tools, consent forms, data protection materials, and report templates.
- Encourage a culture of learning, accountability, and evidence-driven practice by sharing M&E findings and good practices.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, programme reporting, or data management in a development or NGO setting.
- Proven experience managing programmes across multiple sites and working with field-based teams.
- Strong experience engaging stakeholders such as government offices, schools, or education authorities.
- Background in curriculum design or instructional design within a technology or ICT environment.
- Experience supporting M&E work in donor-funded programmes, especially with international funders.
- Understanding of ethical principles related to research and data collection.
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms and database administration.
Performance Expectations
- Monthly, quarterly, and annual donor reports are submitted accurately and on time.
- Data quality and consistency are maintained across all programme sites.
- The beneficiary database remains accurate, current, and securely managed.
- Alumni tracking follow-ups are completed at the six-month and twelve-month points.
- M&E tools, templates, and the documentation library stay current and well maintained.
- Programme staff show stronger capacity in data collection and reporting.
First 90 Days
