Role Overview

Citylitics is hiring a Junior Data Engineer for its Custom Solutions team. This person will help build and maintain production-grade data products that support customer-facing use cases. The role calls for a strong foundation in data engineering practices, along with hands-on experience in orchestration, data modeling, and data warehouses.

This position is based in Toronto and follows a hybrid schedule with at least 3 days per week in the office.

What You Will Do

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain reliable, high-performance data pipelines using Airflow and BigQuery, covering testing, release, monitoring, and ongoing support.
• Work with analysts and business partners to define data needs, shape BigQuery data models, and improve query and dashboard performance.
• Act as the main data engineering contact for Custom Solutions, working with Data, Product, and Customer Success teams to move custom client requests from proof of concept into production.
• Translate client needs into technical solutions and keep stakeholders informed about progress and technical details throughout delivery.
• Help improve data infrastructure and engineering workflows by introducing useful tools, stronger practices, and smarter ways of working.
• Use AI tools to speed up development, debugging, design, and documentation, and help identify new ways to build more efficiently.
• Take on other related duties as needed.

Requirements

• Strong command of Python and SQL.
• At least 2 years of experience creating and maintaining data pipelines with Airflow or Cloud Composer.
• Solid knowledge of data warehousing concepts and practical experience with BigQuery.
• Good understanding of data engineering fundamentals, including ETL/ELT, data modeling, and idempotent pipeline design.
• Experience working with Git and cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
• Bonus experience building and deploying interactive dashboards or data applications, such as Dash on Cloud Run.
• Strong troubleshooting ability and a proactive approach to identifying and fixing issues.
• Clear communication and collaboration skills for working with analysts and other stakeholders.
• Comfort using AI tools such as Claude in everyday engineering work.
