About the Company
Mulvey & Banani is a Toronto engineering consulting firm focused on integrated building systems for electrical and electronic infrastructure. Its work supports both new construction and the renovation or repurposing of existing buildings with solutions that are built to be resilient and adaptable.
Role Overview
The IT Administrator is a practical, hands-on role that keeps the office’s technology running smoothly. You will manage daily IT support, ensure employees have dependable access to hardware, software, networks, and in-office audiovisual tools, and help shape an efficient support and ticketing workflow. This position also involves troubleshooting, improving systems, and planning for future technology needs as the organization expands.
What You’ll Do
- Act as the main contact for everyday IT assistance, resolving issues with hardware, Windows 11 desktops, Microsoft 365, and network access with minimal disruption to staff.
- Prepare and configure laptops, desktops, mobile devices, and peripherals for both new and current employees, including imaging, software installation, licensing, and access setup.
- Monitor, maintain, and replace office technology such as workstations, laptops, printers, headsets, and related peripherals when needed.
- Manage office networking, including LAN/Wi-Fi performance, secure wireless access, VPN setup, and coordination with internet or network vendors during outages or service issues.
- Support conference-room and in-office A/V systems, such as displays, projectors, audio equipment, and video conferencing tools used for Teams meetings and presentations.
- Help establish and improve an IT helpdesk process, starting with email, messaging, or spreadsheets, and later evaluating and implementing a formal ticketing platform.
- Create and maintain IT documentation, user guides, troubleshooting notes, FAQs, and an accurate automated inventory of hardware, software, and licenses.
- Verify backups, support basic disaster recovery readiness, and assist with simple server or cloud service administration such as file, email, or storage services.
- Strengthen security by managing antivirus protection, applying updates, enforcing policies, and addressing vulnerabilities proactively.
- Work with external vendors for repairs, warranty claims, telecom/internet issues, and other specialized technical support needs.
What We’re Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience in IT support or administration.
- About 3 or more years of experience supporting office users with hardware, software, and network issues in an IT support, helpdesk, or systems administration environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Windows 11 and Microsoft 365, with additional familiarity with macOS and mobile devices being an advantage.
- Practical PC troubleshooting skills, including installing or replacing components, connecting peripherals, and diagnosing hardware problems.
- Solid understanding of core networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP, along with experience supporting firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi access points, and VPNs.
- Experience managing user accounts and access in systems such as eDirectory and Microsoft 365/Entra ID/Azure AD, including onboarding, offboarding, and permissions.
- Comfort using an informal or formal helpdesk process to manage support requests and deliver responsive customer service.
- Working knowledge of IT security practices, including antivirus tools, patching, and basic firewall or network security measures.
Preferred Experience
- Professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft 365 Certified Endpoint Administrator, or similar credentials.
- Exposure to virtualization, cloud infrastructure, or broader enterprise networking such as routing, switching, and VPN administration.
- Experience with mobile device management or endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Intune, Samsung Knox, or comparable platforms.
- Background supporting conference-room A/V systems and video conferencing equipment.
- Prior work in a small or medium-sized company where autonomy, initiative, and multitasking were essential.
