Role Summary
The Investigative Analyst will provide research, analysis, and investigative support connected to enforcement of criminal tax laws and related financial crime matters. The work helps promote voluntary compliance with South Carolina tax laws by identifying issues, organizing evidence, and supporting investigations from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out continuing research to uncover new facts or additional information sources.
- Review and interpret financial statements, bank documents, general ledgers, invoices, tax filings, and other evidence.
- Keep official case files accurate and current throughout investigations.
- Gather and organize information from electronic databases, public records, and financial institutions related to subjects under investigation.
- Create spreadsheets and analytical summaries that explain findings from investigations.
- Look into complaints, inquiries, or possible violations of South Carolina statutes or regulations.
- Perform inspections or surveillance involving businesses and individuals when needed.
- Help plan and coordinate witness interviews and affidavits.
- Act as a witness or corroborating participant in interviews when required.
- Support trial preparation by reviewing testimony, examining evidence, and coordinating witnesses.

Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma plus experience in investigations or other law enforcement duties, or
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Additional Requirements
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- The selected candidate must attend and successfully complete the CLASS 3 basic law enforcement certification program at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
- Travel is required as needed, including some minimal overnight travel.
Preferred Background
- A bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in investigations or other law enforcement duties.
- An associate degree with 4 years of experience in investigations or other law enforcement duties.
- A high school diploma with 6 years of experience in investigations or other law enforcement duties.
Work Schedule and Location
Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for a 37.5-hour workweek. After one year of employment, the position may be eligible for remote work up to two days per week. Depending on office space availability, the employee may be assigned to one of the following offices: Columbia, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, or Rock Hill.
