Front-End Engineer

Role Overview

The Front-End Engineer will build, support, and improve the digital interfaces and online experiences used across web products and platforms. This position calls for strong hands-on experience with React, Next.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern UI/UX practices to deliver front-end experiences that are easy to use and accessible.

Working closely with the Business Intelligence & Innovation teams, this person will help create internal self-service tools and customer-facing applications. The role also includes ongoing website maintenance, feature development, and streamlining user journeys for both internal teams and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Create responsive, fast-loading web applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Support content operations through headless CMS tools such as WordPress, Shopify, and Contentful.
• Build interfaces with accessibility standards and performance considerations in mind.
• Translate stakeholder input into polished interface designs and functional front-end features.
• Partner with Marketing to keep digital experiences aligned with brand guidelines and user expectations.
• Improve workflows for self-service tools so non-technical users can work more efficiently.
• Update and maintain customer-facing properties such as the Rockets.com ecosystem and mobile app, along with internal tools.
• Create automation and content management solutions where they can reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with the Business Intelligence & Innovation team on front-end work for data-focused applications.
• Coordinate with cross-functional partners to support campaigns and broader business objectives.
• Document front-end processes and help maintain reusable component libraries.

Required Experience and Technical Background

A minimum of 3 years of experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Next.js is required. Candidates should also be comfortable working with HTML, CSS, responsive layouts, and CMS platforms. Experience with REST APIs, version control through Git, and collaborative development practices is also expected. A working understanding of backend integration patterns such as REST and GraphQL is important.

Preferred Skills and Functional Experience

• Experience implementing server-side rendering and static site generation in Next.js.
• Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
• Knowledge of techniques used to improve front-end speed and overall performance.
• Exposure to headless CMS workflows and API-based content management.
• Strong eye for detail and the ability to produce refined visual interfaces.
• Clear communication skills and comfort working across departments.
• A practical problem-solving approach with a strong focus on user experience.

Physical and Work Conditions

• The role may require standing, sitting, walking, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and speaking or hearing.
• Close vision and the ability to adjust focus are necessary.
• Because of the nature of the work, the employee must be able to move around and lift at least 20 pounds.
• The position may require flexibility to work changing hours and at different locations as needed.
