About Codes Health

Codes Health is tackling a major bottleneck in plaintiff litigation: collecting complete and accurate medical records. At present, that process can take 30 to 50 days and often involves repeated faxing, phone calls, and portal follow-ups across thousands of providers, each with its own back-office workflow.

The company now delivers records in about 12 days on average. To make that possible, it is building an agentic layer that works inside this messy real-world environment. Each retrieval improves the system’s ability to reach another part of American healthcare, creating a provider data layer that cannot simply be scraped or bought. This places the company at the most upstream point of a $20B+ market where many downstream workflows depend on it.

The same issue shows up well beyond plaintiff legal work. It is also common in healthcare, where the CEO first encountered it while running a home health agency, as well as in disability services, life sciences and clinical trials, and insurance. All of these industries face the same underlying challenge.

Amplify Partners described the company as capturing the moment where the most important data is created, with the opportunity to expand from ingestion into orchestration and eventually own the stack.

The company has grown from $0 to a $3M+ run rate in a year and has expanded 2.5x quarter over quarter for four consecutive quarters. It has raised $17M from Amplify, General Catalyst, Haystack, and Y Combinator, and serves 130+ law firms across plaintiff litigation and mass tort, including the largest plaintiff firm in the country.

The role

Design is a core part of the product. Because the company’s work supports critical legal and medical workflows, the goal is to maximize simplicity without sacrificing accuracy or detail. Customers care about outcomes—getting complete information quickly—not about model updates or extraction infrastructure. In this role, you will work behind the scenes to shape the experience between those two needs.

You will be the company’s first designer, owning design from end to end and shipping quickly alongside the founders.

What you will work on

  • Designing across a broad product surface with multiple stakeholder groups, including both internal tools and customer-facing product experiences.
  • Making highly complex, high-volume medical record data feel manageable, even when the input is messy, conflicting, scanned, duplicated, and fax-based across thousands of pages.
  • Creating experiences that work at scale for customers managing thousands of cases at the same time, not just for one case at a time.
  • Using AI as an enabling layer rather than the centerpiece, so workflows are assisted or automated while remaining intuitive to users.
  • Building the company’s design language and system from scratch in a way that fits the product and its industry context.

What the team is looking for

  • Experience as a first or early designer, with the desire to own the design function.
  • Enough seniority to operate independently and set the direction for design.
  • A track record of making dense products feel straightforward, ideally shown clearly in a portfolio.
  • The ability to spot where users drop off in a flow, investigate the cause, and proactively bring solutions.
  • Strong interest in AI-native products and how people interact with them.
  • Fast prototyping ability, ideally including coding skills.
  • A product design background with the flexibility to contribute to brand work when needed.

Non-negotiables

  • This role is fully in person in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
  • A portfolio is required.

Tools and working setup

The product is built using shadcn and Tailwind. There is currently no design system, so you would be expected to build one. The team is open to either Figma or code as the method for getting there.

Compensation and benefits

The package includes a competitive base salary, meaningful early-stage equity, 15 days of PTO, and benefits.
