About the Role
This opportunity is with Mercor, a company that connects top-tier creative and technical professionals with leading AI research teams. The organization is based in San Francisco and is backed by well-known investors including Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey.
The opening is for a Phylogenetics PhD or domain expert role under the Zion (Arches) project. It is a remote contract position offering compensation in the range of $55 to $80 per hour.
What You Will Do
- Create high-quality training data by designing difficult phylogenetics-focused problems that support AI model development.
- Partner with AI research teams to strengthen large language models through subject-matter expertise.
- Review model outputs carefully, then provide structured feedback and testing insights to improve performance.
- Operate independently and on an asynchronous schedule to complete project milestones and deadlines.
- Maintain a very high standard of accuracy and precision across all outputs and deliverables.
Required Background
- A PhD or advanced qualification in Evolutionary Biology, Phylogenetics, Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, or Ecology & Evolution.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong written and spoken communication abilities.
