The Role

We are seeking a driven Engineering Technician to join the New Plymouth Infrastructure Partnership (NPIP) team based in New Plymouth. This is a practical, field-focused position supporting geotechnical investigations, construction quality testing, and the delivery of reliable infrastructure outcomes.

You will help ensure that materials, work processes, and site operations meet the necessary standards while collaborating with construction crews, consultants, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out geotechnical investigation work, including sampling of soil and rock.
  • Complete field and laboratory tests in accordance with relevant industry requirements.
  • Prepare clear, accurate reports and supporting records.
  • Contribute to the upkeep and improvement of laboratory quality systems, including ISO 9001.
  • Help ensure equipment remains maintained and fit for use.
  • Take part in audits and ongoing improvement activities.
  • Support the planning and coordination of site labour, activities, and resources.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and construction plans.
  • Assist with estimating costs, tracking variations, and preparing project reporting.
  • Carry out asset inspections and update RAMM records.
  • Complete all required job documentation accurately and within deadlines.
  • Support invoicing, reporting, and record management tasks.
  • Develop productive working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and clients.
  • Communicate professionally and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.
  • Promote safe work practices and a strong Zero Harm mindset.
  • Identify hazards and manage risks in line with health and safety requirements.
  • Use PPE and follow safe working procedures at all times.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay, along with a company vehicle and tools of trade.
  • Free access to Marram health care benefits and discounted holiday accommodation.
  • All equipment and tools needed to perform the role.
  • Career progression and development opportunities, including the leader development programme for high performers.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone who is practical, careful with detail, and keen to build their technical capability.

  • A Level 7 qualification or above in Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised by Engineering New Zealand.
  • Background in consulting, contracting, or laboratory settings.
  • Understanding of quality assurance systems and related processes.
  • Practical experience handling tools and equipment in field environments.
  • Well-developed organisational and communication abilities.
  • A proactive approach with a focus on safety and continuous improvement.

Additional Requirements

Successful applicants must complete a pre-employment drug test, medical assessment, and Ministry of Justice check before starting work. If support is needed with these checks, the team should be contacted.
