Employee In Charge (EIC)

Role Overview

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is hiring an Employee in Charge (EIC) in Albany, Georgia. This position plays a critical part in keeping railroad rights-of-way safe while work is being performed. The role supports on-track safety for freight railroads, transit systems, state transportation departments, and other rail industry partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and manage on-track safety controls such as derails, track signage, and related safety equipment.
• Coordinate work activities at the job site and maintain safe operations around active tracks.
• Stay in radio contact with dispatchers and train crews to relay worksite safety information.
• Lead required job briefings with crew members before they enter the track area, ensuring the discussion is clear, complete, and easy to follow.
• Prepare daily field documentation and note any rule violations or safety concerns.
• Make sure railroad, state, and federal safety rules are followed at all times.

Required Qualifications

• Comfort using tablets, smartphones, and communication devices that help coordinate train movements.
• Strong spoken and written communication skills.
• Well-organized and attentive to detail.
• Willingness to travel extensively, including trips that may last for months.
• Valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience with a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance of way department.
• Ability to complete federal, client, and/or company-specific training successfully.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment and recurring background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and classroom training.

Compensation and Benefits

• Pay ranges from $23.00 to $37.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role performed alongside active railroad tracks. Travel is expected to account for approximately 50% to 85% of the work time.
