Domestic Assistant

Role overview

Medirest is hiring a Domestic Assistant for a healthcare setting in Dartford. This is a meaningful opportunity for someone who wants to support patient care and contribute to the smooth, safe running of a hospital. The role is part of a committed team delivering high-quality cleaning services for patients, visitors, and staff.

In this position, you will help maintain infection control standards and keep clinical and public spaces clean, tidy, and safe. The work has a direct impact on the hospital’s ability to provide essential medical services.

Working hours are 35 per week, with variable shifts.

Key duties

• Carry out high and low-level dusting, along with mopping, wiping, and scrubbing surfaces.
• Clean wards, side rooms, toilets, showers, isolation/infected areas, and public spaces.
• Empty and replace waste bins as needed, ensuring rubbish is removed before they overflow.
• Keep all assigned areas to the required standard so they remain clean, safe, and presentable for visitors.
• Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and health and safety rules when using equipment and completing tasks.
• Support a hospital environment where patients may be unwell or distressed, while maintaining professionalism and care.

What we are looking for

You do not need prior experience as a Domestic Assistant. What matters most is a strong sense of pride in your work, a willingness to learn, and the motivation to go beyond the basics for the benefit of patients.

You should be comfortable working under pressure, able to work independently as well as collaboratively, and flexible enough to meet changing business needs. Good communication with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals is also important.

This role involves working in a hospital environment and may bring you into contact with patients who are seriously unwell or showing signs of distress.

The position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check, and the employer will cover the cost.
