Database Administrator

Role overview

This remote contract opportunity is for a Database Administrator who will support and improve database environments used by large-scale applications. The position is centered on maintaining reliable, well-structured, and high-performing MySQL and PostgreSQL systems while working closely with engineering teams.

The engagement offers an hourly compensation range of $25 to $70 and is expected to require around 10 to 40 hours of work each week.

Key responsibilities

• Review database performance and apply tuning measures to improve large MySQL and PostgreSQL environments.
• Work alongside developers to create, deploy, and maintain dependable database structures.
• Build, validate, and oversee backup and recovery workflows to protect essential business data.
• Continuously watch database systems to detect and address slowdowns or other performance issues early.
• Coordinate with different teams to ensure database solutions continue to meet changing business requirements.
• Keep clear records of database setups, procedures, and recommended practices to support continuity and transparency.

Requirements

• Strong practical experience administering MySQL and PostgreSQL in production environments.
• Demonstrated success in improving database performance and resolving technical issues.
• Solid SQL knowledge for querying, scripting, and performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with backup, restoration, and disaster recovery processes.
• Good written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics clearly and document work thoroughly.
