About the role
This role sits within Google’s Data Center team, which runs highly advanced electrical, mechanical, and HVAC infrastructure. As a Facilities Technician focused on controls, you will help keep critical building systems operating smoothly across the data center environment. Your work will involve monitoring, operating, maintaining, and repairing facilities equipment that supports power, cooling, safety, and control functions.
In this position, you will contribute to day-to-day reliability, respond to abnormal conditions and outages, and help improve operational efficiency without compromising safety or environmental standards. You will also assist with the integration of new controls equipment and support startup and commissioning activities as facilities systems evolve.
Google will give priority to candidates who already have the legal right to work in Singapore and do not need visa sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Check, service, and repair data center systems and related components, including PLCs, SCADA, access control, alarms, servers, network equipment, and system administration tools.
- Assist technicians by reviewing blueprints, schematics, ladder logic, and sequences of operation, and by conducting walk-throughs to verify system condition.
- Manage monitoring, recording, and alerting systems used for facilities operations.
- Run, observe, maintain, and react to unusual conditions affecting data center facilities equipment.
- Help bring new controls hardware and systems online through startup, commissioning, and integration work.
Requirements
- Associate degree, trade school qualification, certified technical training, or comparable hands-on experience in a relevant technical discipline.
- At least 7 years working in controls or automation in industrial or commercial settings.
- Comfort with physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, or moving equipment weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg), and willingness to use required safety gear and work platforms in line with safety and ergonomic guidance.
- Ability to work outside standard business hours and across rotating shifts.
- Preferred: industry-recognized certifications in system administration such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Certified Linux System Administrator.
- Preferred: 7 years of experience in controls/automation, construction, technical work, or a related area.
- Preferred: background in data centers, hospitals, power plants, or laboratories.
- Preferred: scripting language knowledge.
- Preferred: familiarity with meters, sensors, relays, and diagnostic/troubleshooting work using hand tools, digital meters, or calibration equipment.
- Preferred: ability to work effectively with contractors handling maintenance or upgrade activities on data center systems.
