Overview
The Building People, LLC is looking for a Construction Estimator to support upcoming government facility construction and repair work in Martinsburg, WV. Applications are being accepted now for this anticipated opening.
What you will do
You will prepare and assess project costs for materials, labor, and equipment; review construction drawings and schemes; manage tendering and bidding activities; and work with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors to evaluate feasibility and cost changes. The role also includes maintaining cost tracking and reporting systems, keeping supplier and subcontractor records organized, coordinating construction projects, and building progress schedules.
Required experience and skills
- Hands-on experience producing detailed cost estimates for construction or repair assignments.
- Strong ability to understand drawings, blueprints, and construction schemes to build reliable estimates.
- Practical experience managing tendering and bidding workflows.
- Capability to create and maintain cost control, monitoring, and reporting procedures.
- Experience building and updating lists of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Comfort working with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors on feasibility reviews and estimate adjustments.
- Background in coordinating construction work and preparing project progress schedules.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Project or comparable project management tools.
- Familiarity with R.S. Means Online Estimating System or a similar estimating platform.
- Ability to obtain and keep a Public Trust (Level 3) security clearance.
Preferred experience
- Experience pricing federal government construction or repair projects.
- Exposure to GSA facility management and procurement processes.
- Experience estimating large commercial, institutional, or law enforcement facilities.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline from an accredited school, or an equivalent mix of education and directly relevant experience.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
- Preferred: Professional certification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) from ASPE, or an equivalent credential.
Additional information
This is an anticipated role, and employment may be subject to a background screen and government clearance approval. Telework arrangements may change depending on customer requirements.
