Role Overview
Viterbo University is seeking a full-time Athletics Communication Coordinator to support its Athletics Department. This permanent, 12-month exempt role centers on media relations, promotional activity, digital publishing, and content creation for the university's athletic programs. The position plays a major part in sharing game results, athlete achievements, and department news with campus and the wider community.
Athletics Communications
- Gather and compile statistics for every home athletic event and distribute them to local, conference, and national media.
- Create and publish game recaps, press releases, and social media content for athletic events.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with television, newspaper, radio, and other media representatives.
- Oversee athletics website updates, including scores, photos, and postgame stories.
- Keep historical athletics records and statistical archives current and accurate.
- Manage the department's social media presence across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and others.
- Organize live-stream coverage for all home events.
- Prepare and submit required statistics, photos, nominations, and stories to conference and national outlets.
- Arrange department photography needs, including headshots, action images, and team photos.
- Support the growth of the Viterbo athletics brand through clear messaging and promotional efforts.
- Produce print and digital publications for athletic department events and special programs.
- Recruit, train, and supervise athletics communication staff who assist with office responsibilities.
Administrative and Leadership Duties
- Participate on the athletics administrative team and help plan signature events such as the Athletics Golf Outing, Wall of Fame, and Athletics Honors Banquet (Victor Awards).
- Guide, train, and lead athletics communication student workers.
- Act as the department's lead official for athletic rosters and scheduled events.
- Support university and athletics staff by providing data and information for internal and external reports.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Associate Athletics Director.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree is required, while a master's degree is preferred. Prior experience in athletic communications is strongly desired. The university is looking for someone with solid writing, speaking, and interpersonal abilities, along with comfort using computers, Microsoft Office, and preferably Presto Sports software. The ideal candidate should be dependable, capable of managing several priorities at once, and willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
