Role Overview

This position is for an Assistant Manager in Engineering at Ambasamudram. The role is centered on leading maintenance and reliability activities for dyeing and utility systems, ensuring safe operations, regulatory compliance, production efficiency, and sustainability improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure full adherence to environmental, health, and safety standards along with all applicable legal and statutory requirements.
• Promote a strong safety-first culture and comply with the Factories Act and Tamil Nadu Factory Rules.
• Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance for dyeing machines and utility assets such as air compressors, chillers, boilers, heat recovery systems, ETP, STP, and ZLD systems.
• Investigate failures using root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain complete records of maintenance work, repairs, and equipment performance.
• Work to improve reliability indicators such as MTBF and MTTR.
• Review weekly and monthly operating data, including breakdowns, MTBF, and MTTR, and monitor closure of action plans.
• Improve overall equipment effectiveness by focusing on utilization, efficiency, and right-first-time performance.
• Reduce waste linked to maintenance and equipment issues.
• Track and improve energy usage in kWh/kg and water usage in L/kg.
• Identify gaps and implement conservation measures to support sustainability goals and KPI targets.
• Use the SAP Plant Maintenance module effectively and ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
• Drive continuous improvement through Kaizens, one-point lessons, and 6S practices.
• Suggest and support modifications, retrofits, and process improvements for dyeing operations in coordination with OEMs.
• Support installation of new machines, including design, layout, and execution activities.
• Contribute to plant improvement and expansion projects.
• Lead, guide, and develop technicians and engineers within the team.
• Conduct regular training sessions and ensure compliance with SOPs, TaRA, and MSA.
• Improve behavioral safety scores and workforce capability.
• Manage maintenance inventory and spare parts to reduce downtime, control costs, and lower MTTR.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and maintenance functions.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking ability with a practical problem-solving mindset.
• Good time management skills and the ability to meet project deadlines.
• Proven leadership skills to manage a diverse team of technicians and professionals.
• Ability to coordinate several priorities and tasks simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of the Factories Act and Tamil Nadu Factory Rules.
• Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations.
• English and Tamil language proficiency.
• Internal audit certification, Lean Six Sigma, and ISO management system certification will be an advantage.
