Additional information
The internship is supported by ODMP, a registered network of grassroots NGOs, environmentalists, and academicians that emerged from civic action following the 1999 post-super-cyclone period in Odisha. ODMP began its work in Puri district in 2001, where 51 NGOs from 11 blocks partnered with UNICEF and the Rural Development department, Government of Odisha, to support the water and sanitation programme. The organization successfully delivered that programme during FY 2001-02 to 2003-04 as the district nodal agency and received recognition at both state and national levels.
From 2005 onward, ODMP broadened its work across other districts of Odisha in development and environmental initiatives. One of its environmental efforts, Nirmal Srikhetra Aviyan, focuses on solid and hospital waste management in Puri city and was supported by UNDP-SGP-GEF and GIZ, with implementation led by ODMP in coordination with RKS, District Headquarters Hospital, Puri.
