About the role

The Web Designer will help shape the online presence of federal agencies by creating, refining, and improving digital content and user interfaces for government websites and campaign platforms. The role requires strong design judgment, attention to accessibility, and the ability to work within federal standards such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) and Section 508. You will work with communications staff, developers, and other stakeholders to turn complex requirements into clear, user-friendly digital experiences. The position calls for independent work with minimal oversight, along with ongoing improvements to site layout, navigation, and content presentation based on analytics and user input. The work is closely tied to usability, accessibility, and performance, supporting important public-facing information and mission-critical content.

What you'll do

• Build page layouts, wireframes, and prototypes using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or similar design software.
• Create and adapt visual assets for the web so they are responsive and aligned with accessibility expectations.
• Use USWDS components and federal design patterns to keep web experiences consistent and easy to use.
• Partner with developers and stakeholders to implement, review, and improve design solutions.
• Review web analytics and user behavior insights to suggest better layouts, navigation, and content structure.
• Make sure all deliverables comply with Section 508 and federal usability standards.
• Assist with usability testing and apply user feedback to iterative design updates.
• Keep current with evolving web design tools, trends, and federal guidance to raise the overall quality of design work.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a closely related discipline is required.
• At least 3 to 5 years of experience in web design or digital design.
• Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or comparable design platforms.
• Prior work on federal or public-sector websites is preferred.
• Solid knowledge of web standards, accessibility requirements, and responsive design principles.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, plus the ability to collaborate effectively with different teams.
• Ability to understand and translate both technical and non-technical requirements into design outputs.
