Role overview
This opportunity is suited to a documentary editor who enjoys building emotionally powerful, redemptive stories. The project is a feature-length documentary running approximately 50 to 70 minutes and follows the real-life account of a pastor’s public downfall, confession, and path toward restoration.
The narrative explores weighty themes such as justice, grace, betrayal, forgiveness, and redemption. Rather than presenting easy conclusions, the film is intended to prompt reflection and hold space for complexity. The editor will be central to defining the film’s rhythm, emotional resonance, and dramatic tension, while keeping the storytelling truthful and cinematic.
Key deliverables
- Turn raw footage into a polished documentary cut with a clear and engaging story arc across a 50 to 70 minute runtime.
- Work with the producer to refine structure, emotional flow, and overall pacing.
- Weave together interviews, archival footage, and b-roll to strengthen the narrative and keep the visuals engaging.
- Enhance the final film through colour correction, sound work, and music placement.
- Produce several review cuts and revise the edit based on feedback until the creative direction and technical expectations are met.
- Prepare final masters and exports in the formats needed for distribution.
Requirements
- Background editing feature-length documentaries or comparable long-form narrative projects.
- Strong editorial judgement and the ability to communicate feeling, tension, and subtlety through cut decisions.
- Comfort using professional editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
- Capability in colour grading, audio balancing, and using music to support dramatic storytelling.
- Discretion and care when working with sensitive subject matter.
- Clear communication skills and willingness to respond constructively to creative notes.
- Availability to work remotely and meet agreed delivery timelines.
- A portfolio or showreel featuring relevant documentary editing samples.
