Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Supply Chain Professional who can step into a Category Lead role and support a major utility organization in British Columbia. This 12-month contract is suited to someone with a strong background in strategic sourcing, category planning, and cross-functional collaboration.

The role focuses on complex procurement and category management work tied to engineering and infrastructure programs. The right candidate will bring a strategic mindset, strong stakeholder skills, and the ability to drive sourcing outcomes that create measurable value.

Location and Work Arrangement

This position can be based in Burnaby, BC in a hybrid setup, Vernon, BC, or worked remotely. Remote candidates must be located within one hour of the Pacific Time Zone and able to work Pacific Standard Time hours.

Responsibilities

  • Create and put into action category and sourcing plans that support business goals.
  • Drive strategic sourcing activities, including multi-stage RFP and RFI processes.
  • Review suppliers and market conditions to uncover savings, improvements, and new opportunities.
  • Develop productive working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and other partners.
  • Draft business cases, leadership updates, and sourcing recommendation materials.
  • Negotiate contracts, coordinate supplier discussions, and carry sourcing plans through to execution.
  • Support supplier relationship management and help resolve supplier or contract performance concerns.
  • Advise teams on sourcing methods, procurement approaches, and category management practices.
  • Examine procurement information and turn findings into clear recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Support ongoing improvements across supply chain and procurement processes.

Qualifications

Applicants should have at least 10 years of experience in sourcing, category management, or strategic procurement. A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field is preferred, though an equivalent mix of education and experience will also be considered.

Strong experience running competitive procurement processes, including RFPs and RFIs, is important. Candidates should also bring excellent stakeholder management, communication, analysis, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office tools are required, along with strong business writing ability and experience preparing executive-level briefing documents. The ideal candidate is self-driven, collaborative, and comfortable working in fast-moving and uncertain environments.

Preferred Background

  • Hands-on experience in operational supply chain work.
  • Experience working in large and complex organizations.
  • Exposure to public procurement tools such as BC Bid.
  • Background supporting infrastructure, engineering, utilities, energy, or capital project procurement.
  • Additional training or certification in Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Change Management, Facilitation, or Communications.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work is available for candidates based in Burnaby.
  • Candidates in Vernon may also be considered.
  • Remote applicants may be considered if they live within one hour of the Pacific Time Zone and can work PST hours.
