Descrizione del lavoro

Role overview

Opus 2 is recognised in the UK and internationally for its transcription services, combining specialist know-how with technology-assisted workflows to deliver accurate transcripts through both traditional transcription and voice recognition methods.

As demand for these services continues to expand, the business is looking for a motivated Speech-to-Text Editor to join its Speech-to-Text team. The successful hire will handle transcripts from court hearings, public inquiries, arbitrations, tribunals, meetings, interviews, and telephone calls.

This position suits someone who is highly organised, comfortable working to deadlines, and exceptionally careful with detail. Prior experience in editing or proofreading would be an advantage. A strong interest in language, continuous learning, and legal transcription is also important. The role is fully remote, allowing you to support high-profile global matters from home.

What the role involves

You will work within the Speech-to-Text team to help ensure transcripts meet required quality standards, following established quality control processes while continually improving your editing capability.

In the first few months, you will build your understanding of court reporting by attending virtual hearings and learning how hearings flow, along with the legal language used by counsel and judges. You will receive structured training and support in transcript production, plus training on editing through the Opus 2 Speech-to-Text Editing Suite, with opportunities to contribute to its future development.

Hearing preparation

  • Join live hearings virtually to become familiar with court procedure and legal terminology.
  • Help run hearings by starting recordings, checking audio quality, and working with the relevant teams to fix audio or technical issues.
  • Examine client documents and build tailored glossaries for new hearings as part of routine preparation.

Editing and transcript production

  • Edit live or post-hearing speech-to-text output while improving speed, accuracy, and command of legal terms.
  • Work with experienced editors on shorter hearing sections to gain experience in same-day transcript production.
  • Use Slack and other internal tools to coordinate with colleagues and keep transcript style and content consistent.
  • Keep improving readability, consistency, and turnaround time across transcripts.

Training and development

  • Complete broad training that covers both editorial and technical aspects of the role through feedback, documentation, and virtual or in-person sessions.
  • Build the stamina, precision, and rapid judgement needed for increasingly demanding editing work.

Progression and greater responsibility

  • Take more ownership of hearing preparation, glossary development, and hearing management for your team.
  • Spot and resolve inconsistencies across transcript production while coordinating with teammates.
  • Move into smaller editorial teams and contribute to every stage of transcript production, including real-time editing, feed editing, team leadership tasks, and final transcript preparation for client delivery.
  • Continue delivering accurate, high-quality transcripts under strict deadlines.

Requirements

  • Self-driven, enthusiastic, adaptable, and comfortable working collaboratively.
  • Able to stay concentrated for long stretches of editing work.
  • Very strong written and spoken English, with the standard needed to meet demanding service expectations.
  • Capable of proofreading carefully and researching effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and good communication skills for working productively with colleagues and clients.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, especially Word and Outlook.
  • Willing to learn new systems built on internal software.
  • Able to explain technical problems clearly in writing and verbally to the office.
  • Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute from audio.
  • Previous experience in transcription, editing, or proofreading is preferred.
  • A degree is preferred, though not mandatory; equivalent practical experience is also valued.

Benefits

  • Contributory pension plan.
  • 26 days of annual holiday plus flexible working.
  • Private health insurance.
  • Loyalty share scheme.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity support.
  • Employee assistance programme.
  • Calm and mindfulness sessions.
  • One paid day off to volunteer for charity, supported by an active CSR team that raises money for the company charity.
  • Regular company social events.
