Role summary

This is a practical, multi-skill position within a laundry service centre. The Service Centre Operative will be trained across different tasks to help keep the end-to-end workflow running smoothly, from receiving and processing garments and textiles through to dispatch. In some cases, if the role holder has a valid driving licence, they may also support customer deliveries and collections.

Key duties

• Sort, inspect, and prepare customer items for washing, making sure each item is tagged correctly and entered accurately into SAP before processing begins.
• Use washing and drying equipment safely and effectively, following the correct loading method, operating steps, and programme settings.
• Review finished garments for quality and appearance, and log any defects or problems in SAP.
• Pack completed orders carefully for shipment or collection, including the right paperwork and labels.
• Keep records accurate and up to date at every stage of the process.
• If required and suitably licensed, drive company vehicles to deliver and collect clean and soiled garments from customer locations, manage handovers correctly, and provide polite, professional customer service.
• Comply with all health and safety rules, including the safe handling of chemicals, machinery, and vehicles.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area.
• Assist teammates and other departments whenever needed to support business operations.

Required experience and skills

The role calls for strong attention to detail, good judgement, the ability to begin paperwork correctly, and the physical capability to handle laundry bags manually. Candidates should be comfortable working under pressure, prioritising tasks appropriately, communicating well with colleagues, acting as a positive example, and using a PC with confidence. Experience in a similar setting is preferred, along with familiarity with SAP.

Education

An O-Level qualification, or an equivalent level of education, is required.

This position is based in the Scottish Borders, Scotland, United Kingdom. It is a full-time, on-site role.
