An opening is available for a Senior Materials Engineer to join the Manufacturing team in Kidlington, within a fast-growing and dynamic environment.

Role Overview

In this position, you will take ownership of the development and refinement of materials and associated processes used in FZ products. Your work will ensure that suitable materials are identified and selected to satisfy customer expectations and relevant industry requirements. You will partner closely with teams across the business, carry out testing and analysis, manage technical data, and keep pace with new developments in materials science to improve product performance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the development and improvement of materials and related processes for both new and existing products so they align with customer needs and industry standards.
• Work with teams across product design, manufacturing, and quality assurance to support innovation in materials and product enhancement.
• Perform testing and analysis of materials to assess performance, durability, and sustainability, while reviewing and maintaining the resulting data in integrated systems.
• Offer specialist guidance on material choice, processing methods, and root-cause or failure analysis.
• Keep current with progress in materials science and technology and apply relevant insights to strengthen product performance and customer outcomes.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, research organisations, and industry partners to identify new materials and technologies.
• Produce technical reports, records, and presentations to share findings and recommendations with stakeholders.
• Support and mentor junior engineers and other team members as needed in their development.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s qualification in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline, along with experience in materials engineering in a product development setting that is focused on customer needs. You should have strong knowledge of material properties, characterisation methods, and manufacturing processes, as well as broad exposure to multiple materials characterisation techniques. A history of successfully leading material development projects from early concept through to implementation is important. Strong analytical thinking, practical problem-solving ability, and clear communication skills are essential, together with the ability to collaborate well in a team environment. Familiarity with CAD tools, material simulation software, and data analysis applications would be an advantage, and you should be committed to continuous learning and keeping up with industry developments.
