About Porter

Porter is working toward an ambitious goal: enabling a billion dreams by creating India’s most dependable, efficient, and smooth logistics platform. Founded in 2014 with the aim of reshaping intra-city logistics through technology, the company has grown into a late-stage startup serving millions of customers across 21+ cities. It is supported by investors such as Tiger Global, Lightrock, and Sequoia.

The business tackles practical, high-impact challenges, including supporting micro-entrepreneurs and truck owners as well as improving last-mile delivery for SMEs and large enterprises. The organization values user focus, accountability, and collaboration, and aims to build a workplace where people succeed by making bold decisions, moving quickly, and working with empathy.

This is a strong-fit opportunity for someone who wants to work in an environment where scale, complexity, and purpose come together, and where culture is treated as a core priority.

Role Overview

Porter is seeking a Senior Manager – People Operations to lead and expand the People Ops function with a strong emphasis on operational discipline, standardized processes, and reliable system-led execution. The position owns the full employee lifecycle operations end to end, with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and scalability while creating robust systems to support a rapidly growing business.

The role demands execution strength, structured thinking, and leadership ability, along with close partnership with Rewards, PBPs, Payroll, and business leaders to enable efficient, insight-led people decisions. This is a high-impact leadership position focused on building a future-ready People Ops engine rather than simply handling routine operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the complete employee lifecycle, including onboarding, background verification, HRMS administration, letters, transfers, promotions, exits, and full and final settlements.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, timely delivery, and SLA compliance across all People Operations processes.
  • Put in place strong operational controls and governance practices.
  • Create and roll out standardized, scalable SOPs across all People Ops workflows.
  • Simplify processes and remove redundant steps to improve efficiency.
  • Define clear SLAs, audit mechanisms, and quality standards.
  • Lead HRMS optimization for Darwinbox or a similar platform and improve system adoption.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and digitization to reduce manual work.
  • Build self-service and scalable workflows wherever possible.
  • Handle implementation and vendor coordination for tools such as helpdesk, LMS, engagement platforms, and related systems.
  • Ensure adherence to labour laws, statutory obligations, and internal policies.
  • Drive internal audits and maintain a zero-leakage, zero-compliance-gap approach.
  • Develop documentation practices and audit-ready operational systems.
  • Work closely with PBPs, Payroll, Rewards, Finance, and business leaders to support operations and decision-making.
  • Advise stakeholders on operational feasibility, risks, and process impact.
  • Support smooth execution of compensation cycles, policy updates, and organizational changes.
  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of 4–5 People Operations professionals.
  • Set goals, monitor performance, and strengthen the team’s capability depth.
  • Encourage accountability, precision, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Build a scalable People Ops engine that can support future business growth.
  • Use data and insights to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance employee experience and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • 6–10 years of experience in People Operations or HR Operations.
  • Strong background in managing employee lifecycle operations at scale.
  • Hands-on exposure to HRMS platforms, with Darwinbox preferred.
  • Experience in process design, SOP development, and operational scaling.
  • Solid understanding of compliance, audits, and HR governance.
  • Proven people management and capability-building experience.
  • Experience with people analytics and reporting.
