About the School

About the Role
This position sits within the school science team and provides technical, laboratory, and administrative support to teachers, lab staff, and the Head of Department. Reporting to the Principal or a delegated representative, the Science Technician works both on their own and as part of the team to help deliver practical science learning smoothly across the curriculum.
Key Duties
- Set up apparatus, resources, and demonstrations for hands-on science lessons.
- Prepare chemical solutions and laboratory materials while following the required safety procedures.
- Keep laboratory spaces safe, tidy, and well organised.
- Support the handling, storage, and control of chemicals, equipment, and consumable supplies.
- Use and maintain laboratory equipment, including routine calibration and general upkeep.
- Assist teachers with practical tasks, demonstrations, and preparation for fieldwork.
- Keep detailed records such as stock lists, chemical registers, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Receive deliveries, monitor stock levels, and assist with ordering.
- Carry out all tasks in accordance with workplace health and safety obligations.
Selection Criteria
The school is looking for someone with solid laboratory technical knowledge and a strong understanding of safe work practices. You should be able to work without close supervision, juggle multiple priorities, and maintain high standards of accuracy in record-keeping. Good communication, a cooperative approach, and the ability to work well with others are also important. A proactive attitude and a willingness to help improve science learning are highly valued.
