Descrizione del lavoro
Job Summary
This position is accountable for keeping rotating equipment in reliable operating condition through preventive maintenance, repairs, overhauls, and troubleshooting. The work covers steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, pumps, and their associated auxiliaries.
The technician is expected to know the assigned work area thoroughly, understand the equipment in use, and have a practical grasp of the process supported by that equipment. Day-to-day maintenance tasks should be completed independently within normal supervision. Good housekeeping, proper care of tools and equipment, and full compliance with occupational health, quality, safety, energy, and environmental procedures are essential.
Key Accountabilities
- Complete assigned routine and non-routine maintenance tasks on time and to the required standard while working with normal supervision.
- Share progress updates verbally or through work sheets so that supervisors can track the status of planned work.
- Obtain approval for cold work permits before starting tasks, ensuring compliance with safety rules.
- Lead toolbox talks before work begins to review the job plan and confirm that the right tools and safety gear are available.
- Spot equipment issues and report findings promptly to the immediate supervisor to help prevent failures.
- Follow safety controls such as lockout/tagout, isolation requirements, and hazardous-area rules during maintenance of rotating equipment.
- Observe all permit-to-work requirements, including LOTO, confined-space precautions, handling of hazardous materials, and safe lifting practices, to maintain a safe work environment.
- Use precision instruments correctly, including micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and bore gauges, to check tolerances and confirm correct assembly.
- Carry out basic rigging and lifting using approved lifting plans and the proper use of slings, shackles, chain blocks, and hoists when moving equipment parts.
- Supervise a team of contracted workers during shutdown activities for specific assigned jobs.
- Perform routine condition monitoring on pumps, compressors, turbines, and motors, including vibration, temperature, and lubrication checks.
- Support alignment activities such as soft-foot correction, preliminary checks, and final alignment using dial gauges and laser alignment tools.
- Help dismantle and reassemble rotating equipment while correctly handling bearings, seals, couplings, and other precision parts according to procedure.
- Carry out cleaning, inspection, and minor refurbishment of parts such as filters, strainers, oil systems, and bearing housings to support reliability.
- Assist with lubrication work, including oil replacement, grease application, and collecting samples for oil analysis, while using the correct grade and quantity.
- Carry out basic fault diagnosis when abnormal vibration, noise, heat rise, or leakage occurs, and report the findings immediately.
- Ensure spare parts, especially precision items like bearings, seals, and couplings, are stored, handled, and preserved properly.
- Keep tools, instruments, and workshop equipment in good working order and ensure measurement tools remain within calibration requirements.
- Work according to equipment-specific maintenance procedures and OEM instructions during routine and corrective maintenance.
- Support engineers and senior technicians during major overhauls, turnarounds, and shutdowns involving rotating machinery.
- Record work notifications and completion feedback in SAP, including tasks performed, materials used, and the condition of the equipment.
Requirements
- High School qualification plus a 2-year diploma in a relevant field.
- At least 5 years of direct experience in the fertilizer, petrochemical, chemical, or oil and gas sector.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid working knowledge of steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, couplings, different bearing types, mechanical seals, and dry gas seals.
- Understanding of valves, exchangers, pressure-relieving devices, lubricants, their functions, selection criteria, and correct usage.
- Comfortable reading engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Capable of using precision measuring tools accurately.
Additional Information
This role requires strict adherence to quality, safety, energy, and environmental standards at all times. Housekeeping, proper tool care, safe lifting practices, permit compliance, and correct storage of parts are all part of the job. During shutdowns, the technician may be asked to coordinate contracted manpower for defined tasks.
