Role overview
This position is part of the pre-contracts / estimating function and is essential to winning future work. The successful candidate will support tender activity, help shape construction approaches, and contribute to competitive, high-quality proposals for major civil infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities
- Support the preparation and coordination of tender submissions, making sure all details are accurate and complete.
- Build construction approaches, staging plans, and work sequencing for civil projects.
- Partner with estimators to develop cost models, including quantities, productivity assumptions, and resource plans.
- Spot project risks during the bid stage and help develop mitigation measures.
- Work with designers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather technical information and pricing.
- Assist in preparing early-stage project programmes and schedules using planning tools.
- Check that tender documents align with client requirements, regulatory obligations, and internal standards.
Required experience and skills
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in civil infrastructure, preferably across general civil works and roads within NZTA environments.
- Strong numerical thinking and analytical capability, with careful attention to costing and documentation.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different teams and stakeholders.
- Good planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to handle several deadlines in a tender-focused setting.
