Prison Support Role
HMP Wayland is seeking an Operational Support Grade (OSG) to play a crucial role in the daily operations of a busy prison. This is an extraordinary job for someone with the right qualities to make a real impact. As part of a supportive team, you will undertake a variety of tasks including security checks at the gate, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring communications and CCTV. The role is dynamic, involving both desk-based duties and physical activities such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds.
While a driving licence and personal transport can be beneficial due to the rural location and limited public transport, it is not an essential requirement unless specifically stated. Candidates must ensure they can reliably commute to and from the prison for fixed shift start and finish times.
No formal qualifications are required. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, able to remain calm under pressure, possess good judgment and common sense, and be an excellent team player. This fast-paced role offers a pathway to a successful career within the prison service.
As an OSG, you will work varied shifts, including weekends and nights, to ensure continuous operation. This role provides significant insight into prison operations and offers opportunities for career advancement, including potential progression to a Prison Officer role through a conversion scheme.
