Prison Support - HMP Bullingdon

Role overview

His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service is hiring an Operational Support Grade for HMP Bullingdon. This is a hands-on, varied position focused on helping the prison operate safely and efficiently. The annual pay for the role is £29,432.

What the job involves

You will support the daily running of the prison through a mix of security, supervision, and administrative duties. The work includes gate security, searching, handling deliveries, overseeing visitors, and keeping an eye on phone use and CCTV. The role combines desk-based tasks with physical activity such as lifting, carrying, and walking escorts across the prison site.

Location and travel

Some prisons are based in rural areas with limited public transport, so having a driving licence and your own transport can be helpful, though it is not always required unless specifically stated. Shift start and end times are fixed, so you must be able to travel to and from work punctually. Applicants should think carefully about the site location and their transport arrangements.

Driving licence requirement

Applicants must hold a full, valid UK driving licence that includes category D1. This allows you to drive vehicles with no more than 16 passenger seats, a maximum length of 8 metres, and a trailer weighing up to 750kg.

Working pattern

Pay and benefits

In addition to base pay, you will receive annual leave of 25 days on appointment, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service on a pro-rata basis. You will also receive 9 days of bank, public, and privilege holidays.
