Role overview
A Tier 2 construction contractor is looking for an experienced Planner / Scheduler to support projects in Cork. In this position, you will build, manage, and update project programmes so construction work is delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standard.
What you will do
- Create accurate tender-stage construction programmes and the accompanying narrative, working closely with the estimating team and meeting tight submission deadlines.
- Build and update detailed project schedules using recognised planning tools such as MS Project and Primavera P6; experience with Asta Powerproject is a plus.
- Translate project scope into work packages, activities, and logical sequences that align with deliverables.
- Track actual progress against the approved baseline and keep schedule updates current and reliable.
- Spot variances from the plan and perform critical path reviews.
- Liaise with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to confirm programme details.
- Lead or assist regular progress meetings to review milestones, delays, and recovery actions.
- Identify timing risks and put forward mitigation measures to safeguard delivery.
- Review how scope changes, delays, and unexpected events affect programme time and project cost.
- Prepare and present planning reports, including Gantt charts, S-curves, dashboards, and progress updates.
- Share forecast dates and key schedule information clearly with clients and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a closely related field.
- At least 3–5+ years of planning and scheduling experience in the construction sector.
- Background working on medium to large construction projects.
- Good understanding of construction sequencing, methods, and resource planning.
- Working knowledge of Irish construction standards, regulations, and delivery practices.
- Ability to use Primavera P6, MS Project, and/or Asta Powerproject effectively.
